I recently purchased a 1968 house with golden oak kitchen cabinetry which is in excellent condition however the wood floors are also golden oak and in poor condition. The 1st floor oak flooring has english chestnut stain throughout kitchen living room dining room and smaller bed room.

My dilemma is what stain to go with. 2 keep the floors natural or use a light colored stain golden oak perhaps if your taste is country and enjoy the difference in the woods. I would like to replace the wood floors i can t afford to re stain the cabinetry as well but can t figure out how to choose a stain color that will compliment the floors. Sometimes staining your hardwood floors isn t enough.

My question is should both 1st floor and garden level floors have the same color stain. I like the look of whitewash as it keeps lower level so bright.
